Machu Picchu Tours Without Trekking

You do not need to hike the Inca Trail to experience Machu Picchu. Our non-trekking packages reach the citadel by scenic train through the Sacred Valley, comfortable and accessible. You get the same guided tour of Machu Picchu, the same views, and the same experience.

Who Is This For?

Non-trekking packages are ideal for travelers who want the full Machu Picchu experience without multi-day camping:

  • Families with children: no age restrictions, comfortable hotels every night
  • Older travelers: accessible routes with minimal physical demands
  • Limited vacation time: see Machu Picchu in as few as 5 days
  • Medical considerations: lower altitude exposure, hotel comfort, no high-pass crossings
  • Luxury seekers: upgrade to the Hiram Bingham train and 5-star hotels
  • Repeat visitors: you trekked last time, now experience it differently

How It Works

Step 1: Fly to Cusco

Arrive in Cusco and spend 1-2 days acclimatizing at 3,400m. Explore the city with a guided tour of Sacsayhuaman, the Cathedral, and San Pedro Market.

Step 2: Sacred Valley and Train

Visit the Sacred Valley (Pisac market, Ollantaytambo fortress) then board the train to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo). The 1.5-hour train ride follows the Urubamba River through increasingly dramatic scenery.

Step 3: Machu Picchu

A 25-minute bus ride from Aguas Calientes takes you up to Machu Picchu at 2,430m. Your guide leads a 2-hour guided tour of the citadel, followed by free time to explore.

Train Experience

Inca Rail: from $65

Non-Trekking FAQ

Is the train to Machu Picchu scenic?
Very. The route from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes follows the Urubamba River through the Sacred Valley, with views of snow-capped mountains, river gorges, and lush vegetation. The Vistadome train has panoramic windows and skylights. See our Cusco guide for more on the Sacred Valley.
Can I still see Machu Picchu properly without trekking?
Yes. Train passengers enter through the main gate and have full access to the citadel, just like trekkers. The only difference is how you arrive. You can also add the Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain climbs to your visit. Read our Machu Picchu facts for details.
Do I still need to worry about altitude?
Yes, but less so. Cusco sits at 3,400m and Machu Picchu at 2,430m. You will still need 1-2 days to acclimatize in Cusco before visiting. Our non-trekking packages include acclimatization days. See our altitude sickness guide for prevention tips.
